Lighting, staging, pipe & drape
Lighting, a low stage, and drape are how a ballroom becomes a session people can see. They also hide cases, divide a room, and give a sponsor a backdrop that is not the venue wall.
Where it usually fits
- Keynotes
- Panels
- Awards and demos
- Sponsor backdrops
- Room dividers
Lighting
Stage wash so a presenter separates from the background, a tighter light for a lectern, and uplights for walls and sponsor areas. If the session is on camera, lighting is not decorative. It is part of the picture.
- Wash for the stage, not just a single spotlight
- Uplight color kept quiet unless the brand asks otherwise
- Power and a safe path for cables across aisles
Staging
Portable decks and risers for keynotes, panels, and product demos. Height, steps, skirting, and how people get up and down are the quote, not just the deck size.
- Stage height relative to the seated audience
- Steps, rail needs, and skirting
- Where the lectern, chairs, and confidence monitor sit
Pipe and drape
Backdrop runs, room dividers, registration lanes, and masking for backstage. Linear feet, height, and color decide the order. A photo of the ballroom helps more than a guess.
- Height that clears heads and meets the ceiling you have
- Color that does not fight the stage light
- Runs measured in feet, including returns and corners
